Trending Topic – Severe Weather and Insurance Regulation

Although unpredictable, the occurrence of catastrophic damage caused by severe weather is not unexpected. As departments of insurance continue to respond to various types of natural disasters, NAMIC endeavors to keep you updated with the related regulatory developments. Earlier this year, NAMIC hosted a webinar titled “Wildfires, Insurance and Regulatory Compliance – A Discussion with Regulators,” during which regulators from states significantly impacted by wildfires discussed steps they are taking to address the increased risks associated with wildfires as well as mitigation efforts. NAMIC members have access to 50-State Research Guides that compile catastrophe-related information and data calls. Additionally, NAMIC’s Disaster Resource Center features the latest disaster news and highlights NAMIC’s disaster-related issues.

Featured Forum Question – Use of Artificial Intelligence in Auto Physical Damage Appraisals

This week, the Legal and Compliance Forum features a question about the use of AI in the automobile physical damage appraisal process. As the use of AI gains a stronger foothold in all areas of insurance, questions regarding how its use complies with existing legal and regulatory frameworks are bound to arise.  Check out the specific question in the forum, and if you have experience with the issue, please consider submitting a response. As a reminder, you can now post questions and submit responses to the forum anonymously, and you can also subscribe to a thread without posting a reply.
